This is a report on our satisfaction with the house design, the quality of materials and workmanship, and the continued support by the builder.
We are extremely happy with the floorplan I drew up, the house Roger Craft designed for the floorplan, the views and location of the lot, and the landscaping. (And of course, we love Hot Springs Village.)
Considering that an architect was not involved in the design or building of this house at all, I continue to be amazed at how wonderfully the designs translated into the actual house.
The house far exceeds our expectations, which is all you can ask for.
The only major change has been the addition of a sprinkler system in the yard. (See "Landscaping".)
Evaluating the quality of the materials and workmanship is difficult because the universal response to any problem is "Well, you have to expect that to happen."
But so far, all problems have been taken care of (or are still being taken care of) by Craft and his subs.
For example, our den has 20' high ceilings. On two walls, the studs go up 20' feet with virtually no lateral support except for braces between studs. This seems to have resulted in several hairline cracks in the sheetrock, mostly around the windows.
The response is that there is always settling and cracking, and "you have to expect that to happen". Well, whether or not, the bottom line is that Craft has always promptly sent someone out to fix the cracks. We are holding our breath to see if more cracks appear now that the house is out of warranty.
2008 Update: Settling has not been any problem whatsoever. No new cracks have shown up.
